C. David MaxeyM.A.
Licensed Independent Psychologist Associate

C. David Maxey, M.A. is a Licensed Independent Psychologist Associate (Oregon Board of Psychology License 5067). He received his Master’s in Clinical Psychology with a Concentration in Children and Families from Bowling Green State University and completed a three-year residency through the Children’s Program in Portland, providing services to children and teens. He specializes in Clinical Psychology for children, teens, and young adults (approximately ages 4 to 25) and has extensive experience providing mental health services to children and youth over the past 24 years.

Mr. Maxey has maintained a private practice in Tigard since 2018. His evidence-based approach to therapy is individualized to each client’s needs, rather than following a step-by-step manual-based approach. He incorporates scientifically supported treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent Management Training (PMT), and Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (formerly known as Collaborative Problem Solving). He has served as Board President for the Oregon Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science and is a member of the following organizations:

American Psychological Association
The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health

During the school year, he offers after-school appointments to his private practice clients. Separate from his private practice, he works during the school day as the Director of Student Support alongside teachers and staff at a K-8 public charter school, where he has developed individualized supports for students with ADHD and other diagnoses to meet their specific needs and complement the rigorous education that has consistently ranked his school as one of the top schools in Oregon. He brings these skills to his private work to help his clients access supports their teachers and families find practicable and effective.

David, who has raised two children together with their mom, knows firsthand how important it is to find solutions that work for everyone involved in a child’s life, including parents and the rest of the family. Outside of work, he has served on boards of non-profit community organizations, and he enjoys his time with his family, including the family dog, an affectionate Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. In case you’re wondering, C. David Maxey uses an initial in place of his first name, Charles, because he goes by David (or Mr. Maxey).
